Wildlife rehabilitator Katrina Harrison prefers animals to people. After years of advocating for her endometriosis diagnosis and treatment, she’s content now to take care of herself and the menagerie of animals at the Free Flight Wildlife Center. Until she meets nerdy-hot August O’Hare at a bar and, against all odds, actually likes him.

 Journalist August O’Hare has one goal: turn his Portland assignment for the Washington Herald into the DC career and stable life he’s always wanted. He doesn’t have time for attachments, though he is mightily tempted by Katrina, the very off-limits subject of his latest article. Now August must shadow Kat as she rehabilitates a wary hawk, forcing them into close quarters while desperately trying to keep their growing attraction professional.

But when August’s reporting uncovers a corporate conspiracy that threatens Free Flight and the surrounding community, the stakes are bigger than their relationship. August must weigh if telling the truth is worth risking the career he’s built his life around, while Kat decides if it’s safe to set her heart loose in August’s care.
